The Number Race: Download

Download moved to SourceForge

The main site for download of The Number Race is now SourceForge.net.

You will need to download two files:

  • Number race installer
  • The language pack for your language (which you will need to place in a particular directory, e.g. using Windows Explorer - if you are not sure how to do this ask someone who knows a bit about computers to help)

Alternative download sites / versions

If you have problems installing the SourceForge version above, you can download an older version (v2.3) from this site:

Or for these languages from the following alternative sites:

Version 2.3.5 Released

28/11/2009: Thanks to further development by Alex Maslov (Niilo Mäki Institute), a new version of Number Race (v2.3.5) is now available in all languages, except Greek (v2.21). This version has the following improvements:

  • Language is now fully encapsulated in a language pack. The user can install the pack of their choice, including multiple packs, as an addon.
  • Sound and movement are better coordinated.
  • Additional character and mouseover animations are included.
  • Instructions are included on the registration screen.
  • The source code is unver version control (subversion).
  • The translation process has been considerably facilitated by the development of an editor program which acts as an interface between transaltors and the java source code (to get a copy of this editor, email the project developers on SourceForge).

Languages

The Number Race is currently available in Dutch, English (US), Finnish, French, German, Greek, Spanish and Swedish.

Versions which are known to be currently under production include Hungarian and Italian.

Many thanks to those who have helped to produce translated versions: Bert De Smedt (Dutch), Roland Wilhelm (English), Helga Krinzinger (German), Josep M. Serra-Grabulosa (Spanish), Alexander Maslov & Pekka Räsänen (Finnish, Swedish), *** (Greek).

Interested in making a translation?

If you're interested in making a translation of The Number Race in a language not listed above, we advise that you download the "Translation Pack" from the files on SourceForge to see what is involved. We also suggest you , because she can advise you if anyone else is making a translation in that language.

Other software needed

If your computer does not have the following installed you may need to download them:

  • A decompression program to unzip the file, eg. Winzip.
  • The Java language (note you may need to update your Java version).

Documentation

Please make sure that you read the documentation which comes with your download!

Operating systems

Both versions 2.3 and 2.3.5 work with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista (but not Windows 7 yet). Apparently The Number Race can be run on a mac from the unix command line, as long as your mac OS includes Java. We hope to have a more user-friendly mac version available at some point. *** Note: update info on running with Mac, Unix from user emails ***
