The Number Race: Download
Version 2.3 Released
31/3/2007: A new version of Number Race (v2.3) is now available in all languages. This version has the following improvements:
- The user can now select the initial difficulty level when a child is first registered. This makes it easier to tailor the software to children's initial ability. The updated documentation includes a description of the levels.
- Registration screen bugs have now been fixed
- Sound bug with Java 5 is now fixed
Languages
The Number Race is currently available in the following languages:
- Dutch v2.3, De getallenrace.
- English v2.3, The Number Race.
- French v2.3, La Course aux Nombres.
- German v2.3, Das Zahlenrennen.
- Spanish v2.3, La carrera de los números.
Hungarian and Finnish versions are expected soon. Many thanks to those who have helped to produce translated versions of the French original, by translating and recording the dialog: Bert De Smedt (Dutch), Roland Wilhelm (English), Helga Krinzinger (German), and Josep M. Serra-Grabulosa (Spanish).

Operating systems
The current version is optimised for Windows 2000 & XP. Apparently it can be run on a mac from the unix command line, as long as your mac OS includes Java. We hope to have a more user-friendly mac version available at some point. (Note: Having no access to a mac, help with this would be greatly appreciated!)
Support
Please note that the software is provided without user support. Consult the software documentation for installation and use instructions.
Known bugs
The software contains some minor known bugs, which can be viewed in the SourceForge bug database. You may with reports of further bugs, and we will endeavour to fix major bugs where possible. Currently there are no major known bugs.
Further development
The software is written in Java, and is open-source, distributed under the GNU general public license. If you would like to further develop the software, you need to first download the English version source code.
Please note that you are in turn obliged to distribute any developments you make under the conditions of the GNU general public license.
We recommend to inform us that you are developing the software, because she can help you with developer documentation.
The software makes use of two other open-source modules: BeanShell (GNU LPGL), and JMAT (GNU LPGL), as well as selected modules from David Brackeen.
