MEG

Subject Placement In MEG

Before entering the MSR

  • Make sure that the subject has no metallic particles in his/her clothes or body (hair pins, eye glasses, cell phone, watch, jewels, ear rings, other piercings, bra, magnetic cards, coins, etc. It may be necessary that the subject brushes his/her hair in order to remove potential ferromagnetic particles.)
  • Check that the light on the right side of the wall behind the MEG is green before installing the subject to the chair.

Connections

Guide the subject to the MSR and ask her/him to sit in the MEG chair. Plug all EOG, ECG and Ground electrodes on the right panel of the MEG machine as follows:

* EOG vertical on channel 61 (EEG061)
* EOG horizontal on channel 62 (EEG062)
* ECG on channel 63 (EEG063)
* Ground on channel GND

Plug the HPI coils on the left panel of the MEG machine. The HPI plug only has 5 plastic pins while the MEG connector has six pins (see below). Plug HPI coils at the back of the plug (The sixth pin, closest to you, is not used).

Subject plament in MEG helmet

It is IMPORTANT that subjects are as high in the helmet as possible. Also, be aware that most people will relax during the experiment and often end up in a slightly lower position than initially. Lift up the MEG chair by pressing the treadle until the top of the subject's head touches the back of the helmet (the subject should feel her/his head touching the helmet without feeling 'squeezed). During this operation, ask your subject to be relax and to avoid sitting up in the chair because she/he will naturally sit back during the recording time. Take care that the subject's head is well straight and medially placed in the helmet. If necessary, you can maintain the subject's head with moss pieces inside the helmet. Be careful, this is not really comfortable and ask your subject her/his preference.
